Hello
My name is Ashley. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Art Therapist. My mission is to bring a little more colour into the world that can sometimes feel grey. Together, we will piece together your story and explore what growth and flourishing might look like from wherever you are.
My Story
I am a first-generation Chinese-born Canadian person of the Hong Kong diaspora. My experiences as a result of my several identities have shaped the way I connect to my body, my immediate community, and the world-at-large. Growing up, I oftentimes found it difficult to reconcile being both Chinese and Canadian and this manifested in my relationships with myself and others as a daughter, friend, sister, and partner. It wasn't until I discovered the gift of therapy and being able to name and own my story that I was able to feel safe in the world. My passion has since become to guide others to discover what feeling at-home in their body, community, and the world could be like. As a lifelong artist, I have always found art and creativity to be powerful tools for expressing oneself and unearthing the subconscious. When the subconscious thoughts and feelings are received in safety and explored through curiosity, meaningful change can start to happen. My belief as a therapist is that Trust in the therapeutic relationship with my client is of utmost importance for successful outcomes of any identified goal. Some things that are grounding for me are solving a good puzzle, indulging in a hot cup of coffee, walks in nature, and painting.
Working Together
As a psychotherapist, I specialize in working with individuals with depressive and anxious mood disorders, symptoms of stress and burnout from work, relationship issues and conflict, family conflict, life transitions and direction, and spirituality. In addition to art therapy, some modalities that I employ are Cognitive and dialectical behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). Please note that Ashley does not provide Emergency Services. Please click here for a list of Crisis Resources.
